Turkish Day in London

Can Bonomo headlining the first-ever Turkish Day in London festival at Trafalgar Square
CULTURE / FESTIVAL

Thousands of Londoners are expected at this new one-day family-friendly Turkish festival in the heart of the capital. The organisers say Turkish Day is one of just 10 events permitted in the square in 2014 and they have a jam-packed programme to entertain the crowds, giving them a taste of both traditional and contemporary Turkish culture.

Pop star Can Bonomo, who represented Turkey in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, headlines. The Ottoman Marching Band opens the proceedings at noon, with multi-lingual Balkans-Klezmer band She’Koyokh and their Turkish Kurdish lead singer Çiğdem Aslan, Turkish rockers Sudden Exit, Turkish DJs, and folk and belly dancers among the other live acts. There’s also food, stalls and a big raffle. Entry is free. Ends at 20.30.

Event date: Sunday 1 June 2014 (postponed from 17 May after Soma mining disaster)
Venue address: Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DN
