CULTURE / THEATRE
After a
sell-out run in January, a play about the Turkish ‘Gezi’ protests last year
returns to the Arcola for two more performances in their larger theatre this
Sunday. Directed by Seçil Honeywill, Say Your Name questions the relationship
between big corporations, the government and media. It centres on the events at
Gezi Park on 28 May when a few hundred people from different walks of life came
together to protect their green space and peacefully protest against the
privatisation of public areas. When Gezi turned into nationwide protests, alarm
bells started to ring about Turkey ’s
authoritarian government that is constantly telling its citizens how to live
their lives.
The play is
performed in Turkish with English surtitles.
Event date: Sunday 09 March 2014
Venue address: Arcola Theatre, 24 Ashwin Street , Dalston, London E8 3DL
